Steel Detailer

Reports to: Steel Detailing Supervisor

Job Overview: The detailer prepares detailed erection plans, details and fabrication drawings for the manufacture and erection of steel members (columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, metal decking, etc.) used in the construction of buildings, bridges, industrial plans, and non-building structures.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare erection drawings (plans and details), fabrication drawings, all necessary lists, documents or files (shop & field bolts, material lists, galvanized pieces, CNC files, etc.) to the appropriate department in support of the project
  • Develop SDS/2 models following structural and architectural design drawings
  • Draft concise RFI’s
  • Monitor the fabrication schedule regularly and maintain work flow to ensure timely completion of deliverables
  • Work closely with fabrication shop to solve fabrication problems
  • Work closely with project manager to solve field problems
  • Be closely involved with project management and fabrication departments
  • Transfer SDS/2 exports into Fabtrol from in-house & out-of-house detailers
  • Perform field measurements and with ability to transform into fabrication drawings
  • Ability to check/redline other steel detailers work accurately
  • Promote continuous improvement and contribute to company-wide policies, standards and procedures


Knowledge and Skills: Ability to use SDS/2. Ability to read and understand drawings. Ability to use AutoCad 2014(or later). Basic knowledge of email (Microsoft Outlook or equivalent) and Windows operating systems, Ability to use Fabtrol
Experience: 5+ years of structural and miscellaneous steel detailing experience
