Plant Manager – Metals

Job Overview: The Plant Manager position requires an individual that thrives in a fast paced, competitive environment. This position will be responsible for directing all plant activities related to shop fabrication, automation, welding, production output, scheduling, quality control, facility maintenance, and on time shipments.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Communicate effectively with team members about quality standards, safe working environment, state of business, policy and procedures, and production goals.
  • Under the direction of the COO, the Plant Manager will be responsible for directing all plant activities related to shop fabrication, mig-welding, production output, scheduling, quality control, facility maintenance, and on time shipments.
  • Prepare report summaries, ensure production plans are in place, and monitor operations.
  • Coach and counsel employees on work habits, personal habits and use of proper personal protective equipment.
  • Workforce & backlog planning (e.g. tonnage to shop hours metrics), blueprint reading.
  • Budget planning/forecasting; continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Lead a diverse workforce, direct CNC equipment/welding equipment, machine/equipment layout.
  • Budget planning/forecasting; continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Exceed safety goals.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have at least ten (10) years of managerial/supervisory experience in a structural steel plant.
  • Confident accomplished leadership with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to work with all employees.
  • Organizational skills, knowledge of workflow and people skills is a must.
  • General welding knowledge-MIG, ability to read and interpret metal fabrication drawings, basic computer skills-CAD, CNC, accredited safety training.
  • Ability to make decisions that are balanced and inclusive of the team’s input.
  • Ability to utilize as well as create effective excel spreadsheets. Experienced user of Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to associate cause and effect relationships and determine patterns of activity in anticipation of change to the operation or personnel.

Experience:

  • Plant Management: 10 years (Preferred).
  • Welding management: 10 years (Required).
  • Steel fabrication management: 10 years (Required).
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Lean/Six Sigma or other Continuous Improvement Education/ Experience desired.
  • Experience in resource planning and scheduling inline machinery primarily for structural members.
